Grainger’s Commitment to the Skilled Trades
Grainger is committed to helping stem the growing shortage of skilled workers while supporting the increasing technical demands of today’s industrial workplace. The number of trades professionals entering heating, ventilation, air conditioning, welding and other skilled labor industries is dwindling, and these jobs remain unfilled. Today’s educated workforce brings emerging technology, innovation and efficiencies to all business sectors, which helps build a strong and healthy economy.
Opportunities in the skilled trades are growing and changing faster than most people realize. The jobs available today and in the future offer exciting, long-term career opportunities that require advanced problem-solving skills, creativity and knowledge of science, technology and math.
The Grainger Tools for Tomorrow® Scholarship Program
Grainger is investing in the future of the workforce and addressing the growing shortage of trained trades professionals through our Grainger Tools for Tomorrow® scholarship program. Grainger’s mission in supporting technical education is to make it easier for those interested in a skilled trade career to get the information and training they need to join the industrial trade workforce.
The Grainger Tools for Tomorrow® scholarship program awards financial assistance for tuition and books to outstanding students earning an associate’s degree or certificate in Skilled Trade fields, including electronic systems, heating/air conditioning, plumbing, welding, automotive, construction, facilities maintenance or other industrial trades or Public Safety fields, including first responder, law enforcement (city, county, state), prison guard, firefighter, fire safety, emergency medical technician, emergency management and disaster preparedness programs.
For the 2013 – 2014 academic year, Grainger offered 100 community colleges across the U.S. two, $2,000 scholarships for students enrolled in an industrial trades program. One-half of the scholarships awarded each year are reserved for military veteran students.
In addition to financial support, Grainger provides each graduating scholarship recipient with a Westward® toolkit to help launch the graduate’s professional career in the chosen field of expertise.
Since 2006, Grainger contributed more than $2 million in support of technical education through its partnership with the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) to provide more students access to skilled trades jobs and technical education.
