Grainger Helps the American Red Cross Open Its Largest Disaster Supplies Warehouse in the Nation

Arlington, Texas, is the new home of the American Red Cross Disaster Field Supply Center (DFSC). The warehouse is the largest of five Red Cross facilities in the United States that store thousands of cots, blankets, clean-up supplies, comfort kits and other supplies needed to shelter and feed massive groups of people during a disaster. Grainger donated more than $600,000 worth of racking to help store these supplies in the new warehouse.

Grainger’s supply chain expertise and strong culture of service make the company a natural leader in disaster preparedness and response, and Grainger has partnered with the American Red Cross since 2001. Grainger became the National Founding Sponsor of the American Red Cross Ready When the Time Comes volunteer program in 2005, and became the National Launch Sponsor of Volunteer Connection, a vital online volunteer management system, in 2011. In 2014, Grainger became a member of the American Red Cross Annual Disaster Giving program which provides the American Red Cross with needed resources in advance of major disasters so the organization is ready to respond immediately.

On August 20, local dignitaries, first responders, American Red Cross leadership and Grainger team members gathered at the DFSC for the grand opening of the new facility. The DFSC will also host blood drives, CPR and First Aid courses and a new disaster action team that will respond to local disasters. The facility is equipped to respond to and support more than 100,000 people.

It is an honor to partner with the American Red Cross and engage Grainger team members in the mission to provide humanitarian relief to those in need.
